Couples Counseling
Relationships are great at showing us our sore spots and how far we can go with taking responsibility, being caring, showing empathy, and being willing to cooperate.
People start to distance themselves, cheat, manipulate, or hurt each other unnecessarily when they don't know how to take care of their needs better.
Couples therapy can help bring that connection back.
The good news is that being able to connect with others is part of our nature. We just like to throw up barriers to protect ourselves. Through honest and mindful conversations, we can start to heal wounds and reconcile. Unhealthy dynamics can be broken by re-establishing our connections at critical points. We can cultivate personal responsibility and compassion for ourselves and our partner when we face our deepest desires and biggest fears as adults, with support.
As a couple, you’ll first share what you’re looking for, and we'll figure out together what questions need to be answered and what aspects need to be discussed. During the process, we’ll focus on awareness and communication, both mentally and emotionally.
I’ll help you honestly and systematically explore the needs, thoughts, and feelings of both partners, making way for understanding and compassion. Often, a core conflict becomes clear: the desire for closeness and connection on one hand, and the need to stand up for oneself on the other. By becoming aware of outdated bonding strategies, we can learn that both can coexist: being free together.
The foundation of my couples therapy approach includes NARM, Gestalt therapy, and the Gottman Method. I draw on principles and methods from Marshall B. Rosenberg (nonviolent communication), Friedemann Schulz von Thun (communication square, controlled dialogue), and Michael Lukas Moeller (two-person dialogue), along with NARM individual work.
The clearer the entanglements and expectations become, the more being your true self—also in a relationship—becomes possible. Patterns of reaction and communication can be positively changed.
Through mutual understanding and respect for each other’s experiences, the emotional climate eases. This leads to greater clarity about whether and how to continue on the path together.
Of course, I welcome both same-sex and opposite-sex couples, as well as people in open relationships and monogamous ones. Even though my texts aren’t always gender-neutral for readability, they are directed at men, women, and transgender individuals.
Since we've been going to Kathrin's place regularly, we've built a new level of trust and closeness between us. We don't get caught up in conflicts anymore; instead, we keep finding ways to relax and improve our sex life. Kathrin is fair, open-minded, and knows what she's doing.
